Cornrow Braid Hairstyle with Box Braids

Check out our latest cornrow braid protective hairstyle!

I wanted to do a hairstyle that including both box braids and a cornrow hair design!

We’ve done a lot of cute hairstyles and two strand twist hairstyles so this one is a bit out of the norm.

Here you’ll find easy to follow, step-by-step instructions! Enjoy!

Fancy, fancy!

For braiding the hair you’ll need:

Products used:

As always, I started with clean, detangled, stretched hair.

boxStep One:
The first thing I did was part Bunny’s hair into two sections, from one ear all the way over to the other one.

I then clipped the back section out of the way and then began cornrowing the top, starting on one side.

I decided on a very simple design which features a center part and six cornrows highlighting several small cornrows.

Feel free to do any design that you’d like!

boxStep Two:
Here’s what the top of the cornrows looked like.

It took about an hour to do all fourteen cornrows. I made the cornrows small-ish so they would last a good while, but not so small that they’d take a long time.

Again, feel free to do any design that you want, but this is the design that I picked.

Finally, I braided all the loose hair into one chunky braid and decided to finish the style the next day.

boxStep Three:
The next day, I started on the box braids in the back.

I’ve been getting A LOT of questions back the basic box braid hair style lately!

The trick to getting your braids super smooth is to take your time, smooth a styling product throughout the hair, be sure that the hair is tangle-free, and also rubbing a little gel over the ends of the hair.

Yep, it’s not hard =D.

boxStep Four:
I continued to do the box braids, parting the hair off in one and a half inch by one and a half inch squares, adding a little Darcy’s Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla Styling Cream, running a Denman Brush through her hair, and then braiding all the way to the ends.

Bunny just got four or more inches chopped off, so her ends feel great and styling didn’t take as long as it usually does!

The Completed Style:
I hope you found this tutorial helpful!
