Thanks for checking out our about us page! My name is Dominique-Alexis and I first started Natural-hair-care-info.com back in the first month of 2011. Since then I've turned sixteen, been extremely blessed to work with some of the biggest natural hair company's on the scene today, and meet some of the most incredible people in the world!
Hopefully you'll learn something new, but if not, feel free to comment and enjoy the site anyway!
"Bunny" & I :D Sisters forever
Who’s “Us”: Bunny and the rest of sisters (usually willing) are the subjects of my braiding skills and experiments with cornrows and twists. They’ve been really great about letting me try out everything and anything on their heads. Thanks guys!
Learn how I grew her hair long, strong, healthy, & HUGE!!!
Why I’m Natural: In May of 2008, I got my last relaxer ever. I was just thirteen years old at the time. It was my mom who made the decision for me to go natural. She stopped perming my hair so we had to find other ways to style it. The transition from wearing my hair out and straight to being braided and twisted all the time wasn’t really that hard. I wear my hair in flat twists about 80% of the time, 18% of the time it’s tucked up in a bun, and the remaining 2% of the time I use heat to straighten it a couple times a year.
"More than a hairstyle, but a lifestyle..."
Quite honestly, even if I didn’t love my natural hair, I wouldn’t go back to relaxed hair because I love being a part of the natural hair community. I love how it has grown from a small percentage of people to thousands of people learning to fall in love with their curls and kinks instead of destroying them.
Bunny's latest length check!!!
Why I Started This Website: I started this hair site because I really enjoy taking care of my natural hair, as well as helping other people on their natural hair journey if I can. I'm finally coming out of the closet and admitting that I have a deep obsession with braiding hair. I love sharing the styles that I do so that maybe other people will be inspired.
No matter what age or how you were raised, it's never to late to fall in love with your hair. I believe in natural hair rights and I can’t stand to look at thinning, damaged hair due to heat/chemicals because the person doesn’t take the time to learn about their hair. I wanna help people learn so they can step away from the relaxer, put the hot comb down, and learn to accept their hair for what it is.
Oh so beautiful!
My Hair: I usually describe my hair as being like a pet. Fluffy, wild, and sometimes stubborn (some days I want it lie smooth and it has other plans) but I learn how to better care for it every day. I have mostly 4A hair, with some 3C and 4B, gold, and blonde mixed in there. And yes, that is my natural hair color.
Curls!
Bunny's Hair: She is in love with her hair. She's been natural all her life and loves it! Her favorite thing about hair time is when she gets to watch her favorite movies while I do her hair. Her goal (I let her pick the length she wants) is waist length, which means she'll be at her target hair length by the end of 2011. Her hair is mostly 4A, very dark (something I'm a little jealous of), and tends to be very dry if I forget to moisturize her hair even one day. She's very eager to learn to take care of her own hair and I probably will hand the reins over to her when she's a teenager. (If I can :D).
Natural hair is very beautiful!
The biggest thing I want everyone to learn from the site is that there are so many beautiful shades and shapes that natural hair can have. So maybe your hair doesn't look like Alicia Keys' hair. Big deal. I want people to understand that natural hair is beautiful and it's ours and it's here to stay.
Cool, huh?
If you gotten this far, you probably read the whole about us page so I thank you for that. It's quite long, so if you didn't, no biggie. Never feel like you have to read anything. The information is here for those who want it.
